The Northern California chapter of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï will take tour attendees on an exploration of the landscape design of Levi's Plaza, which was designed by Lawrence Halprin as the setting of the Levi Strauss & Company's corporate headquarters in San Francisco.

John Portman’s Embarcadero Center in San Francisco is the city’s most compelling (and sometimes confusing) example of interior urbanism. Designed as a ‘city within a city’ connected by landscaped plazas dotted with massive public artworks, the Embarcadero Center is, in part, suburban shopping malls. This five-block complex has a three-story hive of public and private activity including retail, entertainment, dining, and the other services, terminating in a dramatic atrium hotel lobby. Join us to explore this megastructure within the context of 20th century retail trends and Late Modernist architecture and urbanism.

A line up of professionals, students, and enthusiasts will share their obsession with Northern California (NOCA) Modernism. Each short presentation will highlight a different Modernist building, landscape, object, or practitioner in NOCA.

Beyond the disco balls, shag carpet, and avocado-colored kitchen appliances, the 1970s were a decade filled with both experimentation and anxiety within the field of architecture. Join us for a virtual "walking tour" of Northern California where we'll take you to Santa Cruz, Larkspur, Sea Ranch, and San Francisco to see the sites of the '70s, all inside of 60 minutes!

MOTEL NOCA is a celebration of the motel in Northern California, with a special focus on the city of San Francisco.

This 55-minute documentary by director Akira Boch follows the lives of Ruth Asawa, George Nakashima, Isamu Noguchi, S. Neil Fujita, and Gyo Obata.

Better known for narrow streets lined with red lanterns and eclectic shops, Chinatown also has some of the best Modernist architecture in San Francisco, much of it designed by Chinese-American architects.
